The Gated Community
03.12.2025 , KWR Pavillon
Sprache: English

“The Gated Community” is a space for experimentation and discussion created by students of the seminar “Spaces of Speculation––Exhibitions and Value Production.” The focus is on strategies for staging spaces in the field of art. Based on the assumption that exhibitions not only display valuable works of art, but also create spaces in which value is generated, exchanged, and increased, The Gated Community invites visitors to an encounter that connects spatial relationships with economies of value and commodities.
In view of cuts in cultural budgets, instability in the financial markets, rising rents, and the “resortification” of the art world—its transformation into a luxurious, borderless space for experiential consumption (Isabelle Graw)—the question of the accessibility and exclusivity of the art world takes on new significance. “The Gated Community” examines these logics. We will discuss the idea of the art world as a “resort” and open the doors of the KWR Pavilion for this purpose.
